A competency is the capability to apply or use a set of related knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform “critical work functions” or tasks in a defined work setting.

Competency Framework refers to a particular structure which defines personal & professional competencies needed by people to do particular tasks or jobs. Such competency includes core, leadership, and functional competencies for various job levels of the organization.
All the HR processes is guided by the Competency Framework. Recruitment interviews now a day follow the ‘Competency Based Interviewing Techniques’ as a modern recruitment method. The performance management system applies competency assessment along with the KPI assessment for a job holder. For promotions, the competency assessment tells HR, if someone is ready for the next level. The training & development needs of an individual are also assessed with the help of competency gap analysis. For these reasons, it is called the HR DNA for any organization.
Every professional should have a clear idea about this framework to take his career forward.
